NBOE Opens 8th New School Since 2018

On September 6, 2022, Principal Paich had the incredible honor of opening Ironbound Academy Elementary School (IAES). IAES is Newark Board of Education’s newest school! The opening of IAES reimagined and transformed a shuttered parochial school within the Ironbound. In response to the growing population in the area, Superintendent León sought opportunities to provide families with additional seats in their neighborhood. As a result, IAES has been remodeled into a vibrant school building with smiling faces, positive energy, and an abundance of love! The dynamic teachers, coaches, building staff, and principal are committed to the academic, social, and emotional success of all.

Every aspect of Ironbound Academy Elementary School represents the love NBOE has for the city of Newark. Newark Board of Education’s highly skilled facilities and trades professionals fully upgraded the building which included improvements in lighting, flooring, paint, technology and infrastructure. Everyone who has contributed to the successful opening of this school is an important part of the legacy of Ironbound Academy Elementary School. The district is excited about “Building Strong Foundations at Ironbound Academy Elementary School”!

Sheltered English Instruction

As the number of English Language Learners (ELLs) increases throughout the district, the Office of Bilingual Education is implementing New Jersey Department of Education’s approved Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) program in select schools. SEI delivers language-rich, grade-level content area instruction in English that is comprehensible to the learners. Additionally, it allows English learners to progress academically while developing proficiency in English. Students will have opportunities to develop general academic competencies such as study and critical thinking skills. Teachers providing SEI will participate in self-paced and self-monitored professional development in SEI through Stockton University.
