Students from High Schools: Arts, Central, and Science Park School recently had an incredible opportunity to visit the renowned WNYC radio station. Their visit came after their remarkable victory in the state championships for speech and debate. The District's press release caught the attention of WNYC, leading them to showcase the NBOE's exceptional speech and debate programs.
Upon arriving at the studio, the champion students were warmly welcomed and treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. They had the privilege of engaging with seasoned journalism professionals, who shared valuable tips and advice on pursuing careers in journalism.
The visit to the newsroom proved to be an eye-opening experience for the students. They witnessed firsthand how professionals handle breaking news, including the announcement of OJ Simpson's death. The newsroom buzzed with activity, as former Speech and Debate students from various programs generously shared their contacts and offered guidance on utilizing their forensics skills in journalism.
