When stereotypes stared him in the face, Kevin set out to prove them all wrong. Born in Newark, NJ, raised by hard-working immigrant parents and supported by a local hockey program, Kevin used the ice as a proving ground to show that everyone belongs in the game. Kevin aspires to ensure others like him, particularly those of Latino descent, see the sport as an outlet to thrive.

NBOE, NJ Devils, Hockey In New Jersey and Prudential Financial Teamed Up to Deliver New Hockey Gear to NPS Students
Three time Stanley Cup Champion Ken Daneyko of the New Jersey Devils along with mascot, NJ Devil, surprised Kalib Akanbi (Lafayette Street School), Valentina Lopes (Lafayette Street School, and Santiago Lopes (Roberto Clemente School) with new helmets and gift bags at their home!
The Newark Board of Education, New Jersey Devils, Hockey In New Jersey and Prudential Financial teamed up to deliver new hockey helmets and gift bags to Newark Public School students. Over 100 helmets were donated through a partnership with Prudential and the NJ Devils to Hockey In New Jersey (Newark) and the East Side High School Boys and Girls Hockey Teams.
