[Newark, NJ] The Newark Board of Education is pleased to announce that four exceptional seniors from across the District have been awarded the prestigious QuestBridge scholarship, marking a significant achievement for Newark Public Schools. These scholarships, spanning four years, are granted by esteemed colleges affiliated with QuestBridge, including distinguished institutions such as Amherst, Pomona, and Carleton, as well as renowned research universities like Duke, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, University of Chicago, and Yale.
The Match Scholarship, an integral part of a comprehensive financial aid package from each college, generously covers the entire cost of attendance, encompassing tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and travel expenses.
The accomplished recipients of these scholarships are Shariah Marsden from Bard High School Early College, Laiba Arif and Mariana Nolasco from Technology High School, and Adamari Rodriguez-Valdiviezo from Science Park High School. These outstanding students proudly stand among the top 10% of their graduating class, showcasing excellence in a rigorous academic curriculum that includes AP courses and dual enrollment programs. They have also actively engaged in extracurricular activities such as student government and the National Honor Society.
Notably, the academic pursuits of these outstanding scholars are truly commendable. Shariah is set to embark on a journey at Yale, where her focus will be on Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, showcasing her dedication to the intricacies of scientific exploration. Adamari, with a keen interest in the intricate world of Molecular and Cellular Biology, coupled with a minor in Physics, will be contributing her intellect to the academic community at Johns Hopkins. Mariana's path leads her to Tufts, where she will delve into the realms of Clinical Psychology or Cognitive Brain Science, demonstrating a commitment to understanding the complexities of the human mind. Meanwhile, Laiba's academic journey at Hamilton will center around Psychology, reflecting her passion for unraveling the intricacies of human behavior. These chosen fields of study not only underscore the diverse talents of these scholars but also promise significant contributions to their respective fields in the future.
