[Newark, NJ] Newark Public Schools continues to experience a substantial increase in student enrollment for over the past 5 years, inclusive of this school year. The latest enrollment figures indicate a positive trend in diversification and overall growth in student population.
Last year’s iteration of Newark Enrolls resulted in the highest increase in student enrollment, with over one thousand additional students added to the district’s roster for this school year. While public school enrollment has experienced a downward trend throughout the country, Newark Public Schools is distinguished by having the 5th largest increase in enrollment among the nation’s largest public-school systems.
There are signs that the upcoming enrollment cycle for next school year is on the same path. The District continues to experience impressive growth. Within hours of the Newark Enrolls application launch following the All Schools Fair on November 4, nearly twenty-five hundred applications were submitted. This is higher than any other year following the window opening.
"We are excited to see our student population grow and diversify," said Superintendent Leὀn. "These numbers represent our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive District for students. We look forward to the unique contributions each of our students will make to the city of Newark and beyond,” he added.
Board President Council shared in the excitement, “Our enrollment is growing, which is an indication that the District is headed in the right direction. We are offering families more choices and they are taking advantage as evidence by our increase in enrollment”.
Newark Public Schools remains dedicated to fostering an environment that celebrates diversity and inclusivity while providing a high-quality education for all. The increase in student enrollment is a testament to the mission to empower students for success in a rapidly changing world.
