The New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) to recognize students who have demonstrated proficiency in at least one language, in addition to English, by high school graduation.
This seal helps to highlight the value and benefits of bilingualism among our students. At East Side High School, most of our students are bilingual at varying levels of proficiency. For several years students have demonstrated their language knowledge in two, and sometimes three, languages. Students that received the Seal of Biliteracy not only feel a great sense of pride when they see their test scores and receive the actual certificate, but also have better employment opportunities and have deeper cultural understanding. We want to congratulate all of the Biliteracy Seal students at East Side High School for obtaining this prestigious award. We look forward to recognizing additional students, across the district, next year!
