The student-athletes from various high schools across the District recently united to support a noble cause by participating in the Annual American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Newark's Downtown district. This event served not only as a community service project, but also as a testament to NBOE's commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer. Student-athletes played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this event, with a strong emphasis on active participation.
The students demonstrated their active engagement in various aspects of the event, including fundraising, organizing, and promoting awareness within the community. Their proactive approach and enthusiasm were instrumental in motivating others to join the cause and contribute to the fight against breast cancer. The participating members included the girls' basketball team from Science Park, the cheer team from Malcolm X Shabazz, the football team from East Side, the girls' volleyball team from University, and the cheer team from Technology. The District extends special recognition to the girls' volleyball team from University High School, who raised over $1,200 for the cause. These student-athletes have truly exemplified themselves as role models.
