Guidance
Description: Beginning with the Class of 2022 (and beyond), each graduating high school senior in Newark is required, as part of the district's new graduation requirement, to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application.
Why is the FAFSA/NJAFAA a graduation requirement?
Research indicates two-thirds of almost all living wage jobs will require a postsecondary credential. Training for credentials can be expensive and entrance applications can sometimes be challenging. The Newark Board of Education is committed to preparing all students for the transition from high school to multiple pathways after graduation – both college and career. We support FAFSA/NJAFAA for all graduates. Filing is free. We will help students and families answer questions and successfully complete the process.

Special Education
Project Child Find is a process mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, the federal regulations that dictate how each state provides special education services. This program requires that local school districts assist with the identification of children from age 3 through 21, who may be developing or learning differently.
