Welcome to Parent University
The Newark Board of Education values the active role parents take in their child’s education. In order to support this relationship, the District has implemented a system-wide learning program providing resources, learning opportunities, and linkages for on-going parent and family involvement and community engagement that supports student learning. In accordance with Priority 4.7 of The Next Decade: 2020-2030 Strategic Plan, the NBOE will implement a Parent University that includes a system-wide learning program to provide resources, learning opportunities, and linkages for ongoing parent and family involvement and community engagement that supports student learning.
Similar to a traditional university schedule, the Parent University should be an opportunity for caregivers to participate in meaningful and extended learning experiences on a given topic. Free workshops are offered on various educational topics throughout the school year so parents can become better equipped to support their child’s learning. These classes are designed to add to existing skills, provide opportunities for additional growth and development, and positively contribute to children’s academic and social-emotional success. Research indicates that when schools work together with families to support learning, students perform better in school and throughout life.
