Dance Department
The Arts High School Dance Department is a college preparatory department offering intense training in Ballet, Modern Dance (Horton and Graham Techniques), composition, basic anatomy/kinesiology, and choreography. Students in the Dance Department participate in rigorous conservatory approaches, with a daily double-period class of ballet and modern dance.
Through various artistic partnerships, students are given the opportunity to explore a variety of movement styles with masters in their fields. Students also have the opportunity to participate in frequent master classes with Alvin Ailey and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center residency partnerships.
The Department’s highly qualified staff, with extensive professional experience in the dance world, gives the students the technical skills, discipline, commitment and edge necessary for a professional career in dance or dance-related fields.
Over a number of years, dance majors have been frequent recipients of the Star Ledger Scholarship for the Performing Arts.
