Grammy Award Winning Bass Guitarist Victor Wooten Performs for Weequahic Students
June 8, 2022
June 3rd, 2022 was an amazing night for several Weequahic High School students as they were treated to a concert by author and 5 time Grammy award winning bass guitarist Victor Wooten to benefit music education at the Institute of Music for Children!
Mr. Wooten conducted a master class with the students. Legendary bassist and icon Anthony Jackson made a surprise appearance. Mr. Wooten also performed in concert with Steve Pittman(current Weequahic music teacher) on Guitar, David Jones(NPS music teacher) on alto sax, Dave Watson(retired NPS music teacher) on alto sax, Joel DeRoches on piano, Leroy Thompson on drums, and Janet Van Klein vocals. In the middle of the show, Mr. Wooten invited Weequahic students on stage to play “Crazy in Love," the performance received a standing ovation! Ever the showman, Mr. Wooten ended the performance by playing a fierce solo and taking the strings off of his guitar one by one until there were none left! The entire concert was stellar!
Mr. Wooten even auctioned off the bass strings on his guitar with the money going to the not-for-profit Institute of Music for Children.
