Special Needs
Vision Statement
The vision of the Special Needs Department at Weequahic High School is to provide all students with disabilities appropriate supplemental aids and support needed to access grade level materials and instruction in the least restrictive environment. We work collaboratively with parents, general education teachers, Child Study Team members, support staff, and administrators, in order to best meet the needs of students with a wide range of disabilities. Additionally, general education inclusion supports are offered, including strategies to support students with special needs in the general education classroom. The staff members in the Special Needs Department work diligently to challenge all students to achieve their potential. By personalizing instruction, our goal is to empower individuals with special needs to become self-advocates. It is our hope, that each and every youngster, who passes through the hallowed halls of Weequahic High School, will be able to make a successful transition into an accepting community. As a department, we are committed to educating our students to meet the challenges they may face in the 21st century and hope the entire Weequahic family and community will join us in this effort.
