Academies/Programs of Study

Allied Health Academy - Logo

The Allied Health Academy will provide an outstanding opportunity for students to attain real world skills in healthcare that are aligned to industry standards. The program will focus on taking on the role of an Allied Health professional to solve real-world medical cases via project based learning that include investigations into the delivery of health related services pertaining to the identification, evaluation, and prevention of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutrition services; rehabilitation and health systems management.

Pathways & Experiences

    • Investigate the case of the death of a fictional person by examining autopsy reports to learn the person’s medical history and explore medical treatments that might have prolonged the person’s life in order to learn about human physiology, basic biology, medicine, and research processes, and experimentation.
    • Provide appropriate patient care while performing medical processes and diagnostic procedures in actual and simulated clinical environments.
    • Build organs and tissues on a skeletal Maniken® to examine the interactions of human body systems such as identity, power, movement, protection, and homeostasis in the body.
    • Use data acquisition software to monitor body functions such as muscle movement, reflex and voluntary action, and respiration.
    • Investigate how to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease in order to optimize patient outcomes using scientific principles and evidence-based practices.
    • Explore how to detect and fight infection; screen and evaluate the code in human DNA; evaluate cancer treatment options; and prevail when the organs of the body begin to fail.
    • Promote disease prevention and wellness for optimum health and quality of life for individuals, families, and the community.
    • Apply health care administration and health systems management skills to support health care systems in a variety of settings.
    • Explore the many career options found in Allied Health through practical lab experiences.

Honors and Advanced Honors Academy

The Honors Academy at Weequahic High School is designed to cultivate the talents, interests and scholastic aptitude of our students with an enhanced focus on the 9th and 10th graders. The Advanced Honors Academy will lead to multiple Advanced Placement courses that will allow students to perform at a rigorous level and earn college credits. Available courses of study include: AP Calculus AB, AP English Language & Composition, AP English Literature, AP U.S. History and AP Physics B. Students enrolled in this Academy will receive an extended hour of instruction that will allow them to gain membership into the Pathways to College Program and The National Honor Society as well as prepare for ACT, SAT and Advanced Placement testing. In addition, to learning advanced skills, students will be exposed to the college admission process, campus tours, and various collegiate activities.

History of Program

Jobs for america's graduates NJ is based on a nationally recognized school to create transitional program implemented in over 800 High Schools, alternative high schools, community colleges and middle schools across the United States. This innovative youth program is currently at Weequahic High School in Newark NJ.

JAG Objective

The ultimate objective is to provide JAG students with classroom and work based learning experiences that result in a quality job leading to a career after graduation or completion of a post-secondary education.
