Project Lead the Way
May 16, 2022
During this school year, students at Peshine Avenue School made great use of their newly renovated science lab during a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Medical Detectives course that was implemented as part of an extended learning experience. In the Medical Detectives course, students played the role of real-life medical detectives as they collected and analyzed data in order to diagnose diseases. The course contained three lessons of study: Disease Detectives, Mysteries of the Human Body, and Outbreak! Students enjoyed the course, while deepening conceptual knowledge. At the completion of the course, a white coat ceremony was held to commemorate students’ persistence and commitment to the program.
Peshine Avenue School is one of six schools in the district offering this program. School year 2022-2023 will see an expansion of Project Lead The Way. The goal is to offer Medical Detectives during the regular school day program and a second module. This will not only reinforce the science and engineering practices already being incorporated into science classes, but continue to introduce more of our students to STEM career pathways.
