For Parents
Mount Vernon believes that the more parents take part in every step of their child’s learning experience, the more their child will excel. That is why we offer many convenient ways for parents to stay in touch with the school: by calling teachers, in-person conferences, email access, school messaging system, classroom web pages, the school marquee, workshops and classroom visits.
The school strives to build stronger partnerships with parents, plan activities that support the diverse families in the school and promote positive and effective communication among the school community.
Activities and workshops are coordinated by the Community Engagement Specialist, Ms. Gordon. The Community Engagement Specialist has a Parent Center, Room 102 that is available daily to parents as a central location to meet, greet and share ideas. Ms. Gordon is available to provide educational and community resources for the families of Mount Vernon students.

PTO
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is comprised of parents, teachers and school staff to facilitate parental participation in the school.
Volunteerism
Volunteerism is one of the most integral components of a successful relationship between a family and their child’s school. Studies have shown that children, whose parents regularly participate in their child’s school community, achieve a higher level of satisfaction and academic success than those whose parents do not. Volunteering allows parents to develop deeper relationships between themselves and their children’s teachers and administrators.
Events/Workshops
Every month the school offers a variety of events and workshops to parents with information that is pertinent to today’s educational issues. Check the calendar on the school’s home page for detailed information.
