The Soccer Team is part of the Health & Physical Education Extended School Day Program. The program promotes before and after school programs in an organized, structured environment for the students of Newark.
The goal of the Soccer Program is to provide an activity that complement academic achievement, foster character development, and infuses the New Jersey Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Standards.
The objectives are to:
- Provide students with an incentive to increase their level of concern for academic achievement.
- Provide health competition that focuses on personal development and team spirit.
- Provide a positive, health, recreational outlet.
- Instill concepts of discipline, perseverance, and resilience.
A team consist of six players, five field player and a goalkeeper. Games played prior to Semi-final and final games will be between a 15 to 20 minutes in duration; with no tie breakers during group play, i.e. penalty kicks or overtime Semi-final and final games will be 18 minutes in duration. If the game is tied after regulation a penalty shootout will determine the winner. The shootout will be contested between the five of the six on field players at the time regulation play ended.
In preparation for the Newark Public School Soccer Tournament, the Soccer Team has practice from 7:30 am to 8:20 am, Monday – Friday.
