Daniel Guerra
Principal
As a proud product of Newark, Daniel Guerra attended Newark Public Schools and worked as an English Supplemental Instructor for Essex County College. With a passion to return to his community as an educator, Mr. Guerra began his career teaching 5th grade and 8th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies.
Returning to his alma mater, First Avenue School, he served as the advisor to the National Junior Honor Society and helped lead the after school program to provide an enriching and engaging learning experience for students. As an educator there, he found the importance of teaching social justice through the curriculum and how imperative it was to support young student leaders and advocates. Student voice and academic excellence continues to be at the forefront of his work as an educator and leader.
After earning his Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University and transitioning into a school leadership role as Vice Principal of Elliott Street School, Mr. Guerra carried with him the importance that positive and strong relationships with students have on their academic, social, and emotional growth.
During his time as Vice Principal, Mr. Guerra led the 6th-8th grade spans, as well as supervising the English Language Arts and Social Studies programs. Mr. Guerra has also collaborated with teacher-leaders in creating mentorship programs within the school and implementing a more diverse selection of novels for classroom libraries to better reflect student interests and identity.
With thirteen years serving the Newark community in a variety of roles, Mr. Guerra has found that the foundation to who he is as a leader is in his ability and passion to support our students throughout their academic journey to truly soar as students and active members of our community.
Feeling fortunate to now serve as Principal of Luis Muñoz Marín, Mr. Guerra will continue to keep students and families at the center of his why as he embarks on this new journey with the Luis Muñoz Marín community.
