Literacy
Lafayette Street School’s Language Arts Literacy Program engages children in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing for pleasure, for information, and to construct knowledge. Lafayette Street School seeks to create a community of learners who can be engaged in their learning now and in the future. All teachers use a Balanced Literacy Approach to teaching Literacy. Students are engaged in Readers’ and Writers’ Workshops on a daily basis. Whole group as well as small group instruction assures that the needs of all learners are met. Students in grades K-2 use various resources, while students in grades 3-8 work with the The Common Core Standards guide instruction on a daily basis.
