Dr. Tiffany Wicks
Principal
Dr. Tiffany Wicks, in 2012, began her career in Newark Public Schools as a substitute teacher being mentored and student teaching at Alexander Street School. Dr. Wicks graduated from Caldwell College in 2014 and became a classroom teacher, looping between grades 2 through 4 at Luis Munoz Marin Elementary School. During that time, she researched and built her knowledge on effective pedagogy and continued her education at Montclair State University, completing her Master's in Educational Leadership in 2017. To continue her passion for research and leadership, in 2019, Dr. Wicks became an English Language Arts Supervisor in the Office of Teaching and Learning. In that role, she wrote culturally relevant curricula that embedded books that strengthened pride and understanding of one’s identity and structures that enable students to build knowledge. Our NPS students continue to learn from this curriculum, today. Wanting to continue the district's mission and move learning, in 2021, Dr. Wicks was promoted to Vice Principal of Sir Isaac Newton where she assisted in leading staff and students in instruction and learning. Due to her love of research, Dr. Wicks attends Seton Hall University to obtain her Executive Doctoral Degree. She has completed all of her coursework and awaits her Dissertation Defense this August 2022.
Dr. Wicks is not only an employee of the Newark Board of Education but is also a proud wife and mother of five children, who all attend NPS. The same expectations that she has for her children are those that she has for our scholars; believe in yourself, take accountability for your learning, and take risks.
She is excited to continue with the Sir Isaac Newton community to continue educating and growing our young ATOMS. She believes that all students deserve to build knowledge that will allow them to become agents of social change, who develop their own perspectives and find and create solutions to community and world-wide issues.
