The Newark School of Fashion & Design prepares students to explore their academic and creative potential through the lens of fashion and design by leveraging the design process across the curriculum to afford students space to imagine, problem solve, and collaborate in preparation for future success.
Pathways & Experiences

- Engage in the design process for creating apparel, shoes and accessories from initial concept, to research and development, to finished sample.
- Create fashion drawings including technical flat sketches as guides for production and fashion illustrations for marketing purposes using both traditional and digital media.
- Prepare mood boards for presentations demonstrating concept ideation and inspiration for collections of apparel, shoes, and accessories.
- Create tech packs for garment production including construction details, specs, trim, and all the details necessary for a factory to be able to produce the product.
- Explore and analyze the history of fashion, pioneers of fashion design and illustration, fashion’s impact on culture and role in creating culture.
- Explore and analyze fashion market trends including sustainable fashion.
- Interpret two dimensional garment sketches as three dimensional samples.
- Use flat pattern-making and draping techniques to interpret two dimensional garment sketches as three dimensional samples.
- Use a variety of home sewing and industrial sewing machines to construct garments.
