Professional Race Car Driver Stevan McAleer Pays Data Science and Information Technology a Visit

Through a partnership with Energy Diamond Sustainability Ambassadors Club and Data Science and Information Technology, professional race car driver Stevan McAleer recently stopped by to discuss opportunities in the professional race car driving industry. He expressed a need for diversity in the field and encouraged students to consider careers as drivers, mechanics or the many other opportunities related to the field. He wrapped up the session by donating a go cart students will use to gain an understanding of the mechanical aspects of race car driving.

Novartis Multicultural Event

Students visited Novartis East Hanover campus where they participated in mock interviews, identified essential workplace skills and networked with industry professionals. The experience as described by one student was "amazing." Another student stated "what resonated with me is when the speaker said remember they need to impress you. They want you to work for them. You have the requirements so they are the ones that need to convince you to accept the position." Overall the experience had a profound affect on the students.

Students from Newark's School of Data Science & Information Technology recently visited the Charlotteburg Dam and Reservoir in the city's 35,000-acre Pequannock Watershed.

The Freshmen Biology class went on a trip in which they had no idea what they were about to learn and experience. Students experienced first hand how the City of Newark actually sources the water that comes from their sinks for drinking, cooking, and their bathtub/shower for washing. Students were able to see the vastness of the water and land purchased by the City in 1900. The purpose of the trip was to experience what it is like to be an Engineer or Scientist in the field of water treatment.
