MENTOR, the National Mentoring Partnership, hosted the National Mentoring Summit on January 25 – 27, 2023 at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC. A major component of the summit is Capitol Hill Day.

During Capitol Hill Day, MENTOR affiliate leaders, mentees, mentors, staff and supporters were given exclusive access to their local representatives to meet and advocate for their support for mentoring in their home cities/states. It was a unique experience that allowed students to:

Explore Capitol Hill,
Meet one on one with local representatives (including Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Donald Payne Jr.)
Advocate for increased funding for mentoring.
Share their mentoring experience.

Due to the work that our students have been doing since October 2022 around learning to build a “Mentoring Youth Advisory Council” for NBOE with the GEM Project and MENTOR Newark students Denniah Chapman and Moussa Sow were invited to participate in Capitol Hill Day by MENTOR Newark and MENTOR National.
