Camden's Annual Pearls of Wisdom Day
Beginning with a vision and culminating in reality, a simple idea evolved into a transformative and significant event for young girls. Under the leadership of Principal Garrison, alongside the Visionaries and Event Coordinators Charmaine Rudd-Sanders, a Social Worker from Camden St., and Rutgers Police Lieutenant Hendrix and P.O. Stanley, brought to fruition the girls' Annual Pearls of Wisdom Day. The theme for this year, "Bloom You Grow Girl," acted as a poignant reminder to persevere and continue growing despite any obstacles encountered.
The event commenced with an energetic assembly that featured our youngest participants, the "lil bloomers" from Pre-K, followed by the 7th and 8th grade girls. The girls were celebrated and encouraged by the impactful presence of both men and women from diverse backgrounds in the room. The event was further enriched by our lively MC, Valerie Merritt, and the esteemed participants, including Natasha Hemmings (CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of NJ), Suzanne Bailey (General Manager & Sponsor at White Castle), Chef Monique R. Bonilla (from The Weekend Spot Restaurant), Stacey Lloyd (Captain of the New Jersey State Police), Officer Eley (from the Newark Police Department), O.F.C. Anderson (President of the Hispanic American Law Enforcement), Joy McDonald, Melissa Hartland, Dr. Zabrina Songui, LaKiesha Minor from RUPD, Allison James Frison, Crystal Williams, NBOE Board Members, Mr. Levi Holmes (Executive Director of Security at NBOE), and Mr. Jackson (Investigator Div. 3 at NBOE).
It is also important to acknowledge the key team members who contributed to the success of the event. Mrs.Alaka Hughes (Décor & Art Specialist), Ms. McReynolds-Bird (Flyer & Graphics), Ms. Sharmine Williams (Operations), Mrs. Rosemary Allen (Teacher & Designer), Ms. Holiday (Parent Liason & Playworks), Ms. Sameerah Thompson, Ms. Julissa Estrada, Ms. Sakeenah Raheem (Prek & Presenter), Ms. Mack (Prek), Mrs. Petty Camel (Prek), Ms. Youngblood (Prek), Ms. Johnson (Prek), Ms. Verdes, Ms. Ashie (Media Rm), Ms. Theresa, Ms. Denmark, Ms. Lovelace, Mr. Brown, Mr. Williams, Mr. White, and the Debate/Student Council (Student Ambassadors).
Together we came, made a difference in people's lives, and departed feeling inspired by the wonderful stories shared by the girls, staff, sponsors, and participants. Things will only get better, and the impact of one vision changing lives will remain etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have been involved. Looking forward to next year's event. #BloomYouGrowGirl #wedidthat
