Mr. Malcolm Terrell
Principal
Mr. Malcolm Terrell was born and raised in Newark, NJ. He grew up in the Terrell Homes projects in the east ward where he attended Hawkins St School during his elementary years and Science High School for his secondary education.
Mr. Terrell attended Temple University in Philadelphia , PA and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer and Information Sciences . After receiving his degree, he worked as an assistant director and a director of a non profit afterschool program in Philadelphia. After making impact with students in Philadelphia, Mr. Terrell knew it was time to go back home and inspire the youth in the city of Newark. In 2008, Mr. Terrell moved back to Newark and began his career in education as an 8th grade math teacher at George Washington Carver School. He taught 7 years at George Washington Carver and 1 year at Ivy Hill school.
In 2011, Mr. Terrell was inspired by a co teacher to enroll in Masters Program partnership sponsored by the Newark Teachers Union and Seton Hall University.He received his Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Seton Hall in 2013. Mr. Terrell continued to teach math for 3 more years and decided he wanted to make a broader impact on teaching and learning so he pursued a Vice Principal position. Mr Terrell was hired as a vice principal at Belmont Runyon school where he worked for 2 years and then became VP at Carver/Bruce in 2018.
Mr. Terrell is known for his positive energy, ability to inspire, systems thinking and his undying connection and care for students, staff and the community. He is a firm believer that all students can and will learn and that students should have a platform to share their talents, thoughts and creativtiy.
In addition to his full-time role within the Newark Board of Education, Mr. Terrell is a father to two beautiful children.
