The Piano Major begins with a series of performance-based technique classes offering introductory experience in, and opportunity for, development and improvement of fundamental skills on the piano.

Topics covered include:

• piano playing techniques and fundamentals

• instrument-based music theory

• identifying music forms, structures, and styles

• computer-based music recording and editing

• performing a mixture of different song styles as a soloist, with a partner, in a group, and as an accompanist

These basic-level classes lead to a more advanced-level upperclass program which prepares students for college and conservatory auditions, and for real-world professional applications in the music business.
