Vice Principal
Ms. Carolyn Garcia is a proud graduate of Montclair State University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Family and Child Studies in 2013. She then continued her education at Montclair State University, where she received a Masters in Educational Leadership in 2022.
Ms. Garcia comes to the Newark Board of Education with a substantial quantity of experience in the role of providing support to both students and staff members. She began her teaching career at Newark's Robert Treat Academy School in 2013, where she taught mathematics to students in the second and fifth grades. Later, she joined the Newark Board of Education in 2015 as a sixth-grade math teacher at Abington Avenue School, and the following year, she looped with her students to teach seventh-grade math. In 2018, she was named Teacher of the Year at Abington Avenue School and received the Excellence in Inclusive Education Award from the New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education.
Ultimately, Ms. Garcia developed a passion for supporting instruction in settings other than her own classroom, and in 2019, she served as a teacher coach at Abington Avenue School. During her tenure, she led various extracurricular activities, including Cheerleading, Chess, Claymation, and Medical Detectives. While working at the Newark Board of Education, she was an enthusiastic mentor to new teachers, coordinator for the Saturday Institute Program, and a curriculum writer for the after-school math program. Ms. Garcia's most recent position was as a math instructional coach for the Office of STEM-Focused Learning in Orange, New Jersey. There, she coordinated numerous professional development opportunities for staff and collaborated with teachers to enhance math instruction and improve student achievement.
She is thrilled to return to the Newark Board of Education as the Vice Principal at Abington Avenue School, where she will utilize her expertise in curriculum design, professional development, and instructional strategies to maximize learning outcomes for all students!
Manjari Kapoor
Vice Principal
Manjari Kapoor is joining us as the Vice Principal of Abington Avenue school. Prior to being the Vice Principal, she has over 15 years of diverse experience spanning across classroom teaching, Instructional coaching, and Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction. She received her Master of Arts in Administration & Supervision from Georgian Court University.
Her philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. She also believes that education should empower a child to make a positive contribution to our world.
Mrs. Kapoor is looking forward to focus on character education and fostering a nurturing and safe environment to increase student achievement.
