Alejandro Echevarria
Principal
Principal Alejandro Echevarria has worked for Newark Public Schools for 21 years as an elementary teacher, science teacher, vice principal and principal. Principal Echevarria is a product of the Newark Public Schools as a Newark native having attended Roberto Clemente Elementary School, Broadway Junior High School, and Science High School. He has been a vice principal at Abington Avenue School for the past four years. Prior to this, he served as principal at Luis Munoz Marin Elementary School.
Principal Echevarria supervises all of the bilingual, ESL, and special activity teachers at Abington Avenue School. He also supervises the student support team, child study team, and facilities team at Abington. During the 2017-2018 school year, he was elected as the Chief Innovation Officer representative on the City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (CASA). He also serves as the president of the Latino Educators Association. Mr. Echevarria is proud to have his two children attend Abington avenue school. This year his son Alejandro is going to fourth grade and his daughter Mariela is going to the seventh grade.
Principal Echevarria holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City and received his undergraduate degree from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Mr. Echevarria is a firm believer that if we don’t stand up for children, then you don’t stand for much.
