The First Avenue School Instrumental Music Program provides students with an artistic outlet as they grow into successful musicians. Students begin their musical journey as early as elementary school and carry their experience through middle school. They are able to learn in a sequential program, building upon their knowledge and skill, as the years progress. Instrumental music not only benefits a student academically, but it also reinforces their social and emotional skills. Students learn to work as a team and build their self confidence.
Students in grades Pre-k through 1st grade participate in general instrumental music instruction consisting of partner songs, rhythm instruments, and creative exploration. Once they reach 2nd grade, students begin learning in our piano studio and continue this learning into 3rd and 4th grade. Our school participates in the RAMP (Recorder Arts for Musical Pathways) Program as well in 3rd and 4th grade, where they are able to explore music using recorders. Students in 5th through 8th grade have the opportunity to join our band program. Here they can learn and master skills on a variety of different instruments, including flute, clarinet, trumpet, and percussion.
Throughout the school year, students are able to participate in and perform during performances both in our school and in our community. Junior and Senior band students attend the High Note Festival and have received both Excellent and Superior ratings!
